Sue,

I have had one that had deep brown eye patches as a
lamb.  You don't notice it with her a bit more
sunburnt as an adult.  She happens to carry lilac, but
I have had a number of sheep that carry lilac that
didn't do that.  Don't know what it means, but have
seen what you are talking about at least on the face. 
Hers didn't extend to the fleece area.
