[Jacob-list] rug felting

Hi again
Several of you have written you have tried rug making, and different materials for doing it. One of the neat things about working with wool, or felting etc is the only thing stopping you from doing it is not trying. The most exciting part of the whole thing is that we can turn our truly unique wool into another sellable product. Not everyone spins etc.

When you do get the hang of "wet felting" the possibilities just go from there. Clothing, toys, chair pads and on and on.
Color can be painted on with dye, colored wool added before you start, inlay soft felted shapes or needle felt before you start wet felting. We have been doing this with the felt covered soaps. At a demonstration we did in another county this summer, several of the men asked if "after harvest" I would teach them how to make the rugs to lie on when they need to get under the tractor.
Who knew, and they want to make them themselves!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel very strongly about promoting our darlings for more than their good looks, or if they taste good, even though I am not sure of my love for my rams right now.

I am computer phobic, but when I can get some help, maybe we can set up a way to have a picture gallery of what we can to non-traditionally with our Jacobs.

Keep in touch,,, Lou Anne in S.W. Iowa

  Hi Lou Anne
I for one would love the instructions for rug felting. I think it is wholely appropriate to the list - we all need things to do with our fleeces !
