The very same reason that humans get sunburnt heads.  I sure do and I am
nowhere near bald.  :o)  These are open-fleeced sheep as well, so they
aren't as spongy as some of the other breeds that would have a much
denser wool style and lay to it.  I would think that has some to do with
it.
