One comment about over dosing. I live close to a Merck research farm and a
neighbor of mine used to work there. She said that they tested Ivermec at
ten times the recommended dose and saw no ill effects. When I first got
sheep (they were commercial black faced cross breeds) I wormed on my
estimation of their weight. One day I had a sheep that was so weak, she
could hardly stand. I took her to the vet and he told me that she was so
wormy that she would probably not survive. Since then I try to weigh first
before any treatment. If I can not get to scales, I use wormer liberally.
I have also found that my Jacobs do not seem to get wormy as easily as the
other breeds.
I used to worm by the calendar, I now try not to worm unless they need it.
