[Jacob-list] cutting horns

Hi Robin,
I have cut horns several ways. One way is to just chop it off with a big
bolt cutter as long as it is on the 'solid' end. Or, I cut them off with a
Sawzall (electric hacksaw) when it is in the 'solid' end. One person holds
the head and the other cuts off the end by pressing down and cutting away
from the head side. These are both quick and easy to cut off horns. If you
have to cut it off in the area where it has living (and bleeding) tissue
inside, it is best to use a sawing wire that cauterizes the wound as it
cuts. We once cut off the side of a horn that was too close to the cheek
with a saw wire. Of course the horn broke off there later because it was too
weak! Took three people and was a lot of work. You can tell where the living
tissue ends, because that is where the horn starts feeling cold.
