  Current Severe Weather Alert for Orange County

   Issued at: 3:45 PM EST 1/3/02, expires at: 5:00 PM EST 1/3/02

   The winter storm warning has been extended until midnight north and
east of a line from roxboro to sanford to goldsboro.
   Additional snowfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches can be expected through
this evening across the northeast piedmont and the northern and central
coastal
   plain. Locally heavier amounts around 6 inches are possible. These
additional amounts will bring the storm total snowfall to about 7 to 14
inches with
   locally higher amounts.
   Precipitation will slowly taper off from southwest to northeast
through the early morning hours.
   Travel is discouraged across the area tonight as roads will remain
snow-covered and very treacherous.

   This bulletin affects: Chatham, Durham, Edgecombe, Franklin,
Granville, Halifax, Harnett, Johnston, Lee, Nash, Orange, Person, Vance,
Wake, Warren,
   Wayne, Wilson, including the cities of Chapel Hill, Durham,
Goldsboro, Raleigh And Rocky Mount
