I have to put in another plug for the forage turnips - they've worked very
well here - even with my amature planting skills. I broadcast seed out over
bare ground (didn't know any better at the time). Turnips came up just
dandy; what really amazed me was that those industrious little shetlands
(led by a very clever and bossy jacob) actually dug up the roots with their
hooves and ate them in preference to nice hay. There have been a couple of
excellent articles on the use of forage turnips in Shepherd Magazine in the
last year or two.

On another note, I've had excellent results feeding cut up pumpkins to the
sheep as well. I just split them in half and the sheep loved them. These
were homely, leftover ones given to me by a local pumpkin farmer.
