A ewe in false pregnancy is not likely barren, but just open for that season.
She will probably carry a normal pregnancy in the future, but may go through
false pregnancy again. The reasons for the condition are not certain, but
may have to do with abnormal activity of the corpus leuteum, or possibly
hormone level variations. There is not a conceived and aborted fetus, as a
ewe would physiologically cease being pregnant after an abortion, and a
false pregnancy usually spans a normal gestation period. Usually all the
signs and symptoms of pregnancy are present, and some ewes may go into
lactation (with mastitis as a concern to watch for) Hope you weren't looking
for exact answers ! Robin Casasanto
