Our main ram has gotten very fiesty in the past year or so.  After trying a 
number of solutions, we finally bought a yellow plastic cattle prod.  After 
being shocked on the nose a couple of times, he is very wary of the prod and 
now we just carry a yellow broom stick when in the paddock with him.  It has 
the same effect and several can be stashed around the property.
