"We live in a temperamental climate"
Great news. It is raining. Drizzling. 36 degrees and I'm riding a tractor, feeding cows in the rain this morning. Beginning to look a lot like Christmas normally does around here. The camellias are still blooming though, and the winter jasmine has jumped the gun [it normally waits till after the first of the year]. Would it be sooo wrong if it just rained 1 inch every Friday night?
Last year we had a record cold November and December. The ground was frozen 3 inches deep for the first time in 5 years. The predictions about global warming are this: that the weather will be more fickle, not just colder.

You know what, Neal: what I've noticed is that winter comes later and stays later...doesn't seem to be any warmer, just more of a shift in starting and ending times. Does that compute foryou down there?

Here in N.C. we have had record highs this past week [mid 70's]. Not that we have had any green grass for the sheep, since we've had precious little rain. The warm weather I suppose has been fortunate because it has allowed the small grain planted two months ago a chance to sprout after the drizzle that we did have. The alternative could be extensive erosion on our sloping hills. With no winter cover on the land we would be in bad shape next spring. Can you say "global warming"?
