[Jacob-list] Rare Breeds Exemption/FMD

Folks:

So far, the US and UK response policies toward FMD have been remarkably similar, with the USDA being slightly more draconian in its cull-area radii. A formal proposal is now before the UK's MAFF to provide exemptions for non-infected, non-mobile rare breeds within cull areas. The full proposal can be found at
http://www.maff.gov.uk/animalh/diseases/fmd/ (You will need Adobe Acrobat to open the file)

This is important to us because so far the USDA has rejected any such exception. However, if the UK goes for it, it might give us the momentum to follow suit. If there has EVER been a time to contact your congressman/senator about this issue, it is NOW.
