I received a reply from Mary Duvall, U.S. organizer for Caring Across Borders. She said that their plan is to "arrange local/regional air transport to major hubs for international transport," and is currently working with air carriers and will keep us posted.
She says that "time of year is not a factor as far as temp. since the airplanes are air conditioned for the animals......with a vet on board with the animals at all times." She is seeking to confirm that this is true with all major air carriers. Her understanding is that the younger animals would travel better.
"UK regulations for import are changing even as I write. They have been very strict, but now they realize that their ability to recover will depend on making the regulations as favorable as possible. More than 50% of all livestock is expected to be slaughtered; this includes all breeds of cattle, sheep, and goats. Last week they were at 450,000 with 700,000 more to slaughter."
They have a website donated which is still being designed. It should be up and running in a couple of weeks. It will provide info, list contacts in various breed associations, regional contacts (volunteers) and list all donors/donations of animals. She will let us know the website address.
