[Jacob-list] Dog Problems in Michigan

Hi all,
I just returned today with 2 wonderful guard dogs from Edd's place today
because of dog problems.
In the last two weeks we have had a dog or dogs get in our barnyard which I
thought was safe for our critters. Th first time we lost a couple of meat
rabbits, some chickens and a turkey. My neighbor was not so lucky-- she lost
both of her goats. I was mad -called the sherriff and animal control, traps
were set . They told me I had a right to protect my livestock at any cost. I
can shoot any animal (WILD OR TAME) on my property if it is a threat to my
animals or family. The last time this creature came it killed 14 rabbits (11
angora) and several more chickens. Cages were destroyed. We were not home
at the time and I figured it was running out of rabbits and my sheep would
probably be next.
Sooo- off to Edd's I went and I am now armed with a 410 and 2 dogs. War
has been declared. I used to run off strays with a bb gun worried that it
was someone's pet- HA! Those days are over. I figure if its on my propery
its a threat.

In Georgia the law says something like you cannot shoot a dog UNLESS it is
doing damage to your property. I consider a
dog that is not mine and is on my property as damaging my property. As much
as I'd love to, I have no right to shoot
the dog that stays outside the fence barking all night at my dogs. But, if
that dog ever gets through our fence, he's
fair and, I believe, legal game.
