Edd, now that's interesting. I've always attributed the mane and guard hair 
to primitive stock. Janine Fenton told me the trait was a primitive 
characteristic. We were discussing a ram that had the mane and guard hair and 
she commented that it was common in the older rams from the primitive lines.
