Mike,
I guess I could sum it up by saying that I like to be my own entertainment
director. I listen to the radio some, especially in the car, especially XM
jazz channel (Wynton has a great Saturday morning show) on my 70 mile
commutes to town. But Rhapsody is an incredible treasure, easily worth $15 a
month (I don't do a TV cable hookup, just Rhapsody, XM, and 512BPS modem). I
have some good speakers hooked up to the computer and I get good streams and
I consider it all to be a group of tools. In my head I am still a practicing
musician.

For instance, I am learning a Jobim long composition called Sabia. I go onto
Rhapsody and search the database for all versions of the tune, then make a
playlist featuring them all, and put it in the bank to play as often as I
like (lots of playlists in there at present). Or I hear a tune on the radio
I want to study, find it on Rhapsody and study it. Or I remember a tune from
the past, go to Rhapsody and listen to it again, sweet nostalgia. Or I
decide to listen to all the Beethoven string quartets or all the Debussy
piano pieces, do a search and make a playlist. There are over 2,000,000
tunes on Rhapsody, all arranged in a database that can be referenced by
track, performer, and composer. Once in awhile I burn a CD to play in the
car, but not so often since I got XM for the Cressida. I consider the $15 to
be very well spent. And best of all, I don't have to deal with DJ's telling
me what's good. All my CD's and tapes are stored next door, no longer need
them with Rhapsody in the house.
