End Death Penalty Executions even for the Guilty

He's just another nobody whose life is being terminated by the state, obviously guilty. But killing him in our name does nothing to end criminality in society and is more uncivilized than it was for him to kill others. An "eye for an eye" is equally opposed to "turn the other cheek," biblically speaking.
I think the death penalty serves vengence more than prevention as though making this unfortunate an example. It is mostly an abomination to those whose sorry career it is to carry it out. For those of us that the act claims to make more safe from someone capable of such acts it is virtually meaningless, witness that most people have no idea whose life is being ended, or why. The most suffering generated is to those who must accomplish it.
Even worse, whereas 100 persons convicted and on death row have since been exonerated, so far, there is ample evidence that the system is hardly omnipotent in dispensing justice. It is also ironic that some of the executed are suicidal and don't have the courage to end their lives on their own. They therefore trick society into accomplishing their will. They'll show us who is really the most powerful.

I hate to seem stupid but who is this guy? I don't read the local fishwrap
that often and only read the NY Times on Sunday and the Express News some of
the time.

I always liked the Goya paintings of the Spanish Revolution, and there was
that painting of the Juaristas and ol Max by that French guy whose name I
forget. And that has absolutly nothing to do with anything...
