Okay, now you have let the (pole)cat out of the bag,
bubba. So it might as well ALL be told.
---------------------------------------------
The Wilde's, of course produced Orel Wiley Wilde, who
hooked up with the "black ewe" daughter of Governor
James. S. Hogg - that's right, there was another
daughter besides Miss Ima Hogg. Her name was Hortense
Velma Hogg, and she and Orel moved to Wood County
(just outside Quitman) and produced prolifically -
siring the so-called "Hogg-Wilde" clan that became
infamous as hereditary hide inspectors and armadillo
poachers.
---------------------------------------
The absolute worst of the lot, Ray Don Hogg-Wilde,
begat a son - Hezikiah Abner Hogg-Wilde and a daughter
Doreen Abalone Hogg-Wilde. "Abby," of
course moved back just outside the governor's home
town of Quitman and married Geraldo Beavis Grosse -
the great grand nephew of old J.W. Goethe, who was the
partiarch of the Grosse (nee Goethe) family. The
distinctive and appropriately dispositive
Goethe/Grosse family crest remains the same to this
day - a lone pine tree (symbolizing the limited
branches of the family) set against of field of swamp
wort and crested with wild hog droppings and crossed
gars.
---------------------------------------------
The couple had 18 beautiful children - 10 boys and
eight girls. After an unfortunate misunderstanding,
Geraldo Beavis and Doreen Abalone packed up their
belongings and relocated the entire family to Azle,
Texas. Even to this day, that branch of the family is
referred to as the "Grosse Azels" in the tightly knit
(and bred) German family community into which they
were assimilated.
-------------------------------------------
We shall not, however speak of the second oldest boy
-George Prescott Hermann Grosse. It is rumored he
moved up all the way to Odorono Maine (and from there
to Kennebunktport, Maine) and established a branch of
the family that took on a surname befitting of their
world class abilities as poachers who could
immediatley fade into the trees and bushes whenever
the law was about.
--------------------------------------------
"Bunky" Grosse (Bush) was said to be a dead ringer for
Governor Hogg, who also had an uncanny ability to
blend into the natural background, as this picture
attests:
