Scoundrels, manipulators, and religious propaganda

We watch the TV news precisely to spot the lies, half-
truths, innuendoes and feints that riddle each and every
broadcast. It's truly amazing! For example, I heard Bush
last night say, " ... earlier today in my spee..., er, in what I
said ..." at the memorial service (or whatever.) Obviously,
his handlers had told him (because he didn't know) not to
refer to his remarks, comments, etc. as "speeches." Not
that every little gaffe need be indentified to know where
Bush is coming from, but nevertheless interesting. Also,
no broadcast media have yet reported the fact that about
$300 million in gold and silver bullion is buried in the sad
rubble of the Twin Towers, and that the (often) truly heroic
rescue workers must submit to body searches each day
when they finish their shifts and leave the site. I've been
reading about this interesting fact since day one, on lists
that talk about commodity and gold futures, and yet again
yesterday in the latest edition of The New Yorker. This
seems newsworthy: but might it somehow taint the furious
(and heroic!) digging that is going on under the stoney-eyed
scrutiny of FBI and Secret Service (Treasury Dept.) agents?
