Just to add tp what Peter has already said: Until very recently I had
argus running on a P1-75MHz 32MB Linux box on a fairly heavily loaded
10Mbps ethernet (around 4Mbps real traffic). CPU sat at around 20% and
so far as I know I never dropped any packets. I also have some 133MHz
boxes.

I am currently replacing them all with bottom of the range IBM Aptivas
(Physically small box so I can get them into the DMZ rack) with K6 @
500MHz and 128 MB memory with FreeBSD. These boxes show CPU usage of
less than 1%. We are about to upgrade our DMZ to 100BT ethernet and we
expect our traffic to sore as new fibre link between NZ and US comes on
line in a month or so leading to much cheaper prices (or so we are
promised ;-) I have no worries that the new boxes will cope with the
load.

Cheers, Russell
