**** On The Impracticality Of A Cheeseburger. <http://waldo.jaquith.org/blog/2011/12/impractical-cheeseburger/>
Waldo Jaquith

Further reflection revealed that it’s quite impractical—nearly impossible—to make a cheeseburger from scratch. Tomatoes are in season in the late summer. Lettuce is in season in the fall. Mammals are slaughtered in early winter. The process of making such a burger would take nearly a year, and would inherently involve omitting some core cheeseburger ingredients. It would be wildly expensive—requiring a trio of cows—and demand many acres of land. There’s just no sense in it.

B.k. Sidhu, The Star

Scoot is seen by many as a serious rival to AAX and it should shake up the low-cost travel market in this region. It is also using bigger planes that can carry more passengers and has a parent, Singapore Airlines, that has deep pockets.

**** Singapore's Casinos 'Expected To Make Close To S$9 Billion Next Year' <http://www.todayonline.com/Business/EDC111205-0000030/Singapores-casinos-expected-to-make-close-to-S$9-billion-next-year>

**** Where To Find A Parking Lot In CBD? <http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/Story/A1Story20111205-314326.html>
Michelle Tan, Business Times

A thriving trade in season parking space in the heart of the central business district (CBD) has sprung up - highlighting the unquenched demand for lots in the area.

Here's how it works: office-goers who have obtained lots in another building or shifted out of the CBD don't surrender their parking spaces. Instead, they lease them out to others at a slight premium to market rates.

**** Xenophobia & Racism <http://sgpublicpolicy.wordpress.com/2011/12/04/xenophobia-racism/>
Scrutinizing The Singapore Government

The way I see it, I do not wish for the time of heightened xenophobia and racism among Singaporeans to come. And the authorities can, and should do something that can significantly lessen the social distortion that the sharp jump in foreigners bring to Singapore.

**** Careful, Teacher: What You Do Might Get Posted On The Web <http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_741328.html>
Leonard Lim, Straits Times

Teachers are finding themselves easy targets of their students who are savvy with information technology and who will not think twice about whipping out their mobile phones to take photos and videos to upload on the Internet.

**** Singapore's URA: Too Much Planning? <http://www.architectmagazine.com/blogs/postdetails.aspx?PostId=106923&BlogId=beyondbuildingsblog>
Aaron Betsky, Architect

What is missing is a mess. It was my big and obviously ineffective argument when I was on the URA panel: everything was being planned with such efficiency and with such an eye to latest theories of what makes good urban environment that there was no opportunity for chance, ad hoc activities, or the joy of contrasts.

Once indomitable but twice bitten at the ballot box this year, Singapore’s longtime political masters are getting new clothes. The question is whether the island state’s increasingly demanding voters will be convinced serious change is in the air.
