Green Map® System is a network of geographically and thematically diverse community-led sustainability mapping projects. “Think Global, Map Local!” is our inspiration.
Begun in New York in 1995, Green Map has grown into a community-centered global mapping movement active in over 1000 cities, villages, and neighborhoods in 65 countries. While producing hundreds of diverse print and interactive Green Maps, local project leaders have raised public awareness and sparked meaningful action toward sustainability with their mapmaking processes. Some create local workshops, exhibits, tours, courses, websites, books, videos and more alongside making one or more Green Maps. Each project can promote greener and healthier choices, address injustices, include heritage and unique local issues and species while encouraging involvement with local sustainable living, natural, social, and cultural resources.
http://GreenMap.org includes icons, tools and stories documenting the collaborative process and accomplishments of local projects and the global movement as a whole - you can share your project’s story there too. Along with resources for the general public, GreenMap.org includes adaptable project development resources for mapmakers of all ages. Find our versatile new open mapping platform is at http://new.opengreenmap.org. Thanks to the GISCollective, it’s free for non-commercial use, like all our icons and tools, under the Creative Commons 4.0. Join us for an OGM2 demo-discussion (noted on the platform’s About page) and share your insights and experience.
We wish you the best with your Green Map, and encourage you to reach out to info@greenmap.org if you need help or wish to strategize. We hope you’ll tag @GreenMap in your social media (@green.map on Instagram). Your efforts support our mission of energizing communities worldwide to chart a sustainable future, for all of us!
