What is Turn Beauty Inside Out?
It's only one month until Turn Beauty Inside Out Day.  Many groups and
individuals are planning great ways to Celebrate on May 16!

In Beaverton, Oregon, Liz Ripke's Girl Scout Troop has invited 7 other
troops to spend a day taping PSA's and making print ads for the New Moon Ad
Contest. They will also have other media awareness activities throughout the
day.

Public Service Announcements Available
Our professionally created broadcast & print quality PSA's (featuring real
girls) will be ready April 20 for distribution to TV, radio and print media.
We need your help to get them run in your local media.  We need you to call
stations & newspapers, speak to the person in charge of PSA's, explain Turn
Beauty Inside Out Day to them, and ask them to run the PSA before and on May
16.
Then call or email us with the name of the key person, the station and
mailing address and we'll send them the tape or CD.  The video PSA's are
BETA format and the radio spots are on CD's.  The print ad will be available
on our website as a downloadable PDA file.
Just a couple of phone calls will make a big difference in getting the word
out in your city or town.  Thanks for your help!

Donate and Enter Our Drawing
When you donate any amount to support Turn Beauty Inside Out, you'll be
entered in a drawing for a free subscription or one of our beautiful
posters.  (If you've already donated, you're already entered and Thank You!)
Make your check payable to "YWCA of Duluth" (our partner in the campaign)
and mail to New Moon, PO Box 3620, Duluth, MN 55803.  All contributions are
tax deductible and are used exclusively to support the Campaign's public
outreach, ad contest for kids and costs for the girls' meeting in New York.
Help us cover this final mile in our journey.  (Of course, we also welcome

New York Kickoff
Our national kickoff is May 10-11 in New York City where many of New Moon's
Girl Editors and many of the "25 Beautiful Girls" honored in our May/June
special issue are meeting with ad executives to develop Standards for Images
of and Messages about Girls in Advertising.

Turn Beauty Inside Out is our ongoing public awareness and action campaign
to change the unhealthy messages about beauty that harm kids and adults.
The campaign celebrates Inner Beauty-the beauty of action, caring and making
the world a better place in ways both large and small.

The special (full-color!) May/June 2001 issue of New Moon with the theme of
"25 Beautiful Girls" spreads our message and involves all our readers in the

May 16, 2001 is our Action Day (it's the 3rd Wednesday in May every year).
