Hi, This may seem like repeating work already done but check all the fuses again. I have a 1990 500SL which had symtoms not unlike yours (But it did run) all sorts of seemingly unconnnected failures ,lots of advice on here, but eventually traced to one fuse in the main fuse box in the engine compartment having mechanicly failed (Not burned out). On mine the hood wouldnt work nor the indicators or the door windows unless the drivers door was open plus a few more seemingly separate systems.
Good luck.
Chris.

What is the voltage across the battery terminals?

Hi Jan (the Flying Dutchman),

Did you get my email a couple of weeks ago. I met the president of the Netherlands MB Club in Berlin, and mentioned your name - he knew you. I gave him a couple of Mercedes Benz stickers - one for you and one for him. Have you seen him as yet?

Re the question below, I agree that the fuses could have blown, and, if the window operator fuses have blown, the roof will not go down. This can also inhibit the starting of the car depending on what other fuses have blown (or been dislodged). On the circuit drawing, is there a loop between the car seat belt circuit and the ignition circuit that needs to be made prior to ignition power being supplied to the relay?

I suppose you did not disconnect the battery while you take out the seat?

If so you properly has burned out a few fuses, check them.
