[R129 SL] R129LIST Digest, Vol 67, Issue 1

I presently own a 91 SL and had the instrument cluster flashing and guage needles bouncing around, had the instrument cluster pulled and overhauled and reinstalled. This got rid of all the problems in the dash area. I live in Vancouver BC, the cluster had to be sent to Toronto Ontario for this overhaul, all taxes fees etc came to $600.00 but it was well worth the money. No more problems. Tom Lindsay

I just wanted to mention that I experienced a number of
unrelated electrical problems on my 88 SL500, and it turned out all I needed was
to replace the battery. While it was "fully" charged, that fact was fully
charged didn't mean it was holding much of a charge. Just in case this
helps...

Hi Dennis,
Thanks for the suggestion but at the moment the battery is fully
charged. What I need is some connecting point between the systems giving
trouble. It is probably something as simple as a bad earth but locating
it is the problem. I don't even have access to a wiring diagram for the car.

Thanks Chris.

I
have a 1999 500 sl which I love, I have also owned a 90 and 91 500 sl. The 90
and 91 seemed to have had much more solid cornering and steering ability than
the 99. I have put new shocks and tires on the 99 and it does drive better
than before, however, not as well as my 90 or 91. Any thoughts as to
why?

Is is
possible that you don't drive it very much and the battery is low? I have had
a similar experience (I drive 2,800 miles a year) after a long layoff.

Hi,

My 1990 500SL has been performing well al summer but on a recent rare sunny day

I went to get it out of the garage and was faced with a number of seemingly

unconnected electrical faults. I don't believe they could be unconnected so can

any one help ?

I switched on the ignition and a quiet beeping alarm started. I have never heard

this before so I continued and started the engine and the alarm stopped. I then

found that the direction indicators would not work although the emergency

flashers worked fine. Further testing of systems revealed that the soft top ,

the roll bar and the electric windows had also stopped working although the

windows did go up and down if the door was open (interior lights on). I have

checked the fuses with little hope that this could be the cause as the systems

which are not working don't share one fuse.

I am at a bit of a loss to know where to try next so any advice would be

gratefully received.

Thanks, Chris Wadlow.
