[R129 SL] Can not downshift at speed

.also, look under the car and see if the kickdown wire has become
disconnected from the back of the transmission (passenger side).  Sometimes,
the wire breaks right there as well.

I had the same symptom on my 1995 SL 500.

 

There's a small "kick down" switch located right under the

accelerator. When you "floor" the accelerator , it will cause

a downshift.  It's a easy  , inexpensive fix.
