[R129 SL] soft top goes up half way

The top will stop midway if the controller has not received confirmation that both side windows are completely lowered.  On a '90-'93 there is a limit switch at the very bottom of each door that the window contacts when down.

The soft top on my lovely 91 500SL seems to go up, half-way, then stops. I was able to manually close it, but do miss the open-top driving. Any suggestions?
