Rich.

Read the postings from the past on the website:
I suppose that your car is from that age that the cable's from the speed
sensors from front wheels are intermitted broken.
Is it happening when you are braking?

My car is from 1989 with 255 000 km , ore 160 000 miles, and I have it now
for 4 years.
It is one of the first 129 they build, so they do there best, but I had all
problems you can imagine.
More than 160 issues the first 2 years I bought the car. From fuse till
wheel barrows and plastic parts. That's the reason I know a lot of it.

But on the other hand I replaced so much that it runs the last 2 years
without serious problems.
Except that I changed the start engine and the steering house last month.
Also a few rubber pipes. And we put some stuff into the cooling system
because we saw that there was a small leak at the head gasket.
That is now stopped.

>From the first day I bought the car, ( 20 000 euros ) the rubbers from the

valves were become hard, what sometimes result in smoke
when I have stopped for the traffic light and go to drive again.
First I was worried and disappointed and wanted to fix this problem.
My mechanic told me it was easier and not expensive to give the car every
5000 km a liter oil instead of fix the problem.
So I did, and drive already 4 years with this issue.

So when the gasket will go really defect, we can fixed both problems at one
time, ( revise complete engine ) or take a other engine ( with same problems
after some years) or sell the car.

My Mazda 929 from 1986 had done 20 years without any damage then the heather
unit and normal maintenance.
Last year I replaced the main brake cylinder, the brake disks, the steering
arm, the complete friction and the main silencer.

So don't think they build a car to last eternally.

Greetings

Jan Flying Dutchmen.

Well, it seems that it's time to admit that Stuttgart has laid an egg.
Our R129's definietly have problems that we should not have to expect from
the world's oldest automobile manufacturer. Electrical problems abound- my
"dancing dash lights" and non-functioning wipers are only the beginning.
Now my ASR light comes on intermittently. I hate to speak in cliches, but
here goes- I've had more problems with the '92 500SL (55,000
always-perfectly-maintained and pampered miles) in less than a year of
ownership than I've had with my battered, abused '87 Chevy (106,000 miles).

Has anyone had ASR problems?
Rich
