[R129 SL] Digital odometer

I hade a 1993 420S, and that car had standard a analogue odometer. But
all the odometers before 1994 will some day stops working. The mine
stops at 350 000 km.I measured all the transistors and tested the
odometer motor, but the uPc was faulty, and there were five leads broken
from the printed circuit to the meter unit. So I replaced the meter unit
witch I bought for only 75 Euro !At the second-hand part distributor,
because it was from S, and not from SL) but that unit works only for two
weeks, and get the same fault. Looking at the original Mercedes garage
the mechanic told me that it was a fabrication fault from Mercedes, and
all the broken units has been replaced with warranty for the first
owners.
A new unit costs 1000 Euro. So if I take a used one, it must be after
1994 because before all units has the fault sooner or later. The only
unit my second hand shop has after 1994 was with the meter section
damaged. But I solder the wiring out of the printed circuit and replaced
only the printed circuit, and so I have all the meter units working on
stock.
To set the odo meter back to the original, I replaced the speedometer
with the ASR light inside. Therefore I must remove the needle and the
black cover. It works without problems, the glue holds even on the other
instrument. So I let my wife drive exactly with here car 100km/our in
front of me and put the needle exactly on the 100 mark. So the
speedometer was aligned. I try to do this with the cycle meter, but that
would not work because it is logarithmic. Now I know that the printed
circuitboard is depending on the rest of car, like ASR and so on, most
of the time the printed circuit is the same, but the components are
missing. Bulbs can be set without problems, everything is there. The
speedometer, The outside temperature measure can easily be changed, or
the bulbs be replaced or fill on, like the ASR bulb under the
speedometer. They are for every S and SL the same. Then the odometer has
never stopped working again.

IN 2000 I bought a 1989 500 SL , and it has a digital odometer in the
instrument cluster, so I assume that original there is a analogue
odometer inside, but after some jeers the odometer go's broke, just as
mine 420 S did, (it is the same instrument cluster unit, only with a
different type number) and the owner replaced it with a new instrument
cluster with
Digital odometer.

By the way, the car is now 15 jeers old, and I can get a old timer
assurance here, so for 600 Euro it is all risk assurance
For the day value of 15000 Euro.

Does anyone know where to get a steering wheel for a 99 SL, wood type =
similar to the ones in the 600s? Performance Products has one, but when
= you receive it, you'll see that it's wood inlay, quite different from
= what they depict in their catalogue.

Thanks
