[R129 SL] cd rom MB usa

Ok, everything works fine now, I completely copied the whole cd to the hard
drive, and because I started with the 5.1 reader it works, because the plug
in was there.
The root and maps must be the same as on the CD, otherwise the browser don't
know where to find the files.
I go on try to copies the plug ins that Bob recommended into Arcrobat 6.0
and looks what's happens.
Thanks for replay.
Then for Alvamike: Ok you can do it on line, but from Europe to the States
to arrange and pay it is not as easy as it looks, and with all the spy ware
these day's I am
Not happy to give credit card numbers over the internet.
Then I am collecting all information I can get from Germany and USA , and
put all together with the experience from this board.
So at the end I got an electronically DVD with drawings-advice and
experience from the owners from the car. That's what the self made man wants
when he owned
A R129 and will do the maintenance and repairs as much as possible for him
self. And it is nice for hobby to do so, I learn more about the car.

Greetings to the land with the greatest opportunity to do it yourself.
In Holland you can not get any on line assistance or a CD rom, even if you
pay the lottery price.
You can only get to the dealer and pay 100? for them to look only ten
minutes under the hood.

I tried to do so like the instruction manual tell me to do, so I
installed the Whip.exe file.
But a did have already acrobat on my system. Had 5.01 and on the CD its
5.0.
Also I deleted the original 5.01 and install the 5.0
I use MS XP home and MS browser.
It did not work. Also not on my laptop, witch uses MS XP professional
and Acrobat 6.0

I try on to find the fault.
Mayby I must first completely de-install arcobat and start with a fresh
machine.
That's' why we call it a hobby.

Thanks for reaction.

George, I received your CD-rom from MB USA.

What I can see in the beginning is interesting, because there is a
possibility to give the numbers from the parts, and The system tells
where it's hidden in the car, and there are complete maintenance issues.
Also there are a lot off test procedures, and a lot of drawings. I also
discovered that there are a lot of system drawings acrobat files, but
there is the problem. The files are protected with a code. So the
protocol is working, but when the system asked for a drawing or
electrical system, I get the remark that I miss A plug in for safety
reasons. I look to the files with notebook, and see that there was an
encryption code. When I delete that code, the acrobat reader Takes the
file, and by the properties it say's that there is no password needed
anymore, but I don't have a picture.

So I believe that on the CD there is a complete service manual for the
dealers, but we are missing the safety plug in with, The passwords for
the file's.

Has anyone experience with this? Is there any plug in we can download?

My experience was I had to use the version of Acrobat Reader that was on

the CD-ROM with the R129 files. If not, then one gets problems and as I
also have the full Acrobat installed, it kept defaulting to that (and
trouble) when I tried to browse the files.

Chris Simandl also has a copy and, as our resident I.T. expert, might be

able to throw some light on your observations.

Jan, I also have this copy of the DVD which I purchased from Jonathan
Hodgman last September. I found that If I followed the text file
instructions which were also on the DVD to the letter everything worked
out fine. I am listing the contents of this text file in case you did
not get it with your copy.

"Mercedes R129 DVD Service Manual Installation Instructions

Browse to your DVD drive in windows Explorer (right click on start,
explore) In the root directory of the DVD you will see three folders.
Browse to the Utils folder. In there you will see a Whip4.exe, install
this program. Repeat the above steps after installing Whip and install
acroreader. Restart.

Upon restarting, browse back to the root directory of the DVD, and
browse the Acrobat folder, then Reader, in the Reader directory run
AcroRd32.EXE Allow some time for acrobat to fire up.

Lastly, browse to the Classic folder and run Home.html and you're off:)"

I think the key is the Whip4.exe file. Once this is installed it
somehow attaches to MS Internet Explorer and provides the authority to
view the requested documents and drawings on line. One more thing.
When I first tried the disk I was using Mozilla FireFox as my browser
and could not use the 129 manual. When I reloaded MS Internet Explorer
as my browser and reinstalled the 129 manual as above everything
immediately straightened out.

Happy Motoring,
George Jenner

Jan, after you have installed the whip program try running both the Adobe
and the Classic files directly from the DVD, under the folder Acrobat\Reader
run the AcroRead32.exe, when that loads then minimize it to the bottom, then
go to the Classic folder and open the home.htm file. That worked for me.
The true test that everything is working is when under the Home menu on the
left you click ETM then click start application then click web ETM with star
finder and you should see the main index. Main index should lead you into
the wiring diagrams and component location areas. Luck

I got the DVD from Jonathan Hodgman. The plug-in required by Acrobat is
"ops.api". It is on the DVD in the folder \Acrobat\Reader\plug_ins. If you
copy this to the plug_ins folder of the Acrobat on your hard drive, then you
don't have to run Acrobat from the DVD. Additionally, I recommend copying
one other plug-in in the same manner: "eactw32.exe". This allows you to
copy a PDF file from the DVD to your hard drive and then open it without
using the browser. However -- and this may seem strange -- you still must
have a CD or DVD in your drive with eactw32.exe on it to open the file.

Further notes:
a.. On my DVD, the early Roadster Soft Top (RST) diagnostic manual is for
the W124 chassis!
b.. There are hundreds of duplicate files on the DVD in the folder
\classic\rd\docs. It is my experience that this includes any file where the
first two letters in the filename are capitalized as well as any that begin
with the characters "ra_". This is significant to me, because only one of
my PCs has a DVD drive; and by ignoring these duplicates and omitting some
minor content, it become possible to burn a CD with the DVD's contents. To
make mine, I omitted the owner's manuals for years 1999 and 2000, and while
I was at it, I replaced the W124 RST manual with the proper one for the
R129.

I did delete the acrobat reader and the whip , and then start the computer
back up.
Now it was clean.
Then I did exactly what the txt file describes:
First install the autodesk whip.exe file. Whats in de tools map.
Then the acrobat reader whats in de tools map
Restart the computer, so the files in the registry becomes update and
active.
Then go to the arcobat map and start arcobat 32.exe and wait till it there.
Then go to the classic map and startup the home.html.
The explorer starts with the arcobatreader implemented in the browser.

So, I go to discover the cd-rom, and try to put the files on the hard disk
and manage that it also will work.

This sure sounds like the hard way. If you go to DIYallData.com for
$20/year or so you can have it all on line. I find this BETTER than
anything MB
puts out and easier to surf in.
