The first time I saw Amsoil was at the Reno air races, it was being used in the aircraft that raced. After speaking to some of the pilots and mechanic they all recommended it. I had an 1981 El camino that had 6000 miles when I changed all oil and fluids to Amsoil. Upon starting the car it started with less turns of the motor, idled as if it wasn't running smooth as silk. After about a minute or so I put the car in reverse and backed out of the drive way it was like I was on air again smooth and effortless. I ran the car until I had problems with some smog switchs but until then it ran up to 278,465 miles then the speedo gear broke and I ran it another year sio I would say I got over 325,000 miles on the motor I did have to replace the tranny around 125k. On a chev 305 c.u. engine I got my moneies worth. Markus is right not all synthetic oils are the same, check out amsoil they might have a web page, but I recommend it high for any motor thats going to be driven.

  Greg,

I just switched to Amsoil after not being able to find the Castrol synthetic
I used to use (sent to my door in a day!). Also, after doing some research,
I found out that all synthetics are NOT alike - some are not pure synthetics
as they advertise. Amsoil says to change the oil once a year or x amount of
miles ( which most people never hit) and change the filter only every six
months. I was doing it twice a year at about half the cost so for me, cost
is the same for what seems to be a better oil, at least according to what
I've been reading up. So far I only have 3 months of usage but for a
do-it-yourselfer, it will save me time and cleanup if nothing else.

Cheers,
Markus

The subject has come up about "synthetic oil" and I was wondering with all
of you out there if you really notice a difference and is it worth the
price?
