They cut out the old windows, and sew in new ones. I I actually paid $495, not $400 as previously stated. But, they look great. They did all the work, pulling the existing top off and re-installing it when done. Took one day as well! Now I am on the hunt for the original, or an improved material which I can cut to fabricate new inserts to mount in the window spaces.
