I had a very similar problem about a month ago. I left the
filling station and had an intermittent misfire which
cleared after a 20 km run. The same thing happened again one
morning when I started the car.=20

=20

My local M-B garage checked it when it was misfiring and
said that it was due to weak mixture. It would tick over
fine and one could build up the revs if opening the throttle
slowly but if you banged open the throttle, the misfire
came.=20

=20

I decided it might be the fuel filter and had it changed.
Problem resolved.=20

=20

The fuel filter is with the fuel pump behind a black plastic
shield and about underneath the passenger seat (LHD). Unless
you have a ramp, it is not easy to work on as you need
space. Be sure to clamp off the rubber tube from the tank
with a Mole wrench before taking it off the filter.

Subject: [R129 SL] Gas Overfill...

=20

My gas gauge, which I left in the "on" position, wasn't
reading correctly on my '99 SL500, and I proceeded to
overfill the tank, even though it says on the cover DO NOT
OVERFILL...

=20

Leaving the station after one stop, the car started
hesitating and even died at a light. Any suggestions,
anyone? I know I shouldn't have overfilled it. Where is
the fuel filter located? The car has been otherwise running
beautifully.

It is hesitating and the engine stopping intermittently.
Has anyone had a similar problem?

=20

Please help!

=20

Sincerely,=20

Bonehead
