Dear derek lee
Just found out u have quite a few cars in your collection.
I had a 2.3 16 from new, like yours, but have changed it to the last
R129. Have also just received our new Porsche 911 4cs, after getting rid
of Merc ML

Still enjoying the 190 2.3-16?

Hi all -
I have a '95 SL500 that's been upgraded to the same 18" AMG wheels and
tires that AMG ships on the Sport configuration of this car.

I just had new 245x40-18 Dunlop SP9000's put on the fronts (the
275x35-18 rears are still fine), and faced the same question I've always
had: What tire pressures should I run in the front and rears?
Obviously the MB specs for the stock 8-hole wheels and narrower 16"
tires are of little value here.

Does anyone out there have an SL Sport with this wheel/tire setup that
could tell me what MB suggests and/or or what you personally run?

Thanks in advance -

We have a 97 SL500AE with 18" Amg wheels and Bridgestone tires. We run
30 lbs in the frront and 35 lbs in the back.Thats on the car door and
the Mfg said to go with that. Hope this helps.

I run two pounds over the manufacturer's recommendation for the standard
16" wheels, even though I am running the same 18" AMG wheels/tires as
you now.

Remember, PSI measures pound per square inch on the tire surface. I
believe the only thing really affecting this is the mass of the vehicle
exerting downward pressure on the air in the tires. So changing tire
size, without changing vehicle mass, should not affect the recommended
PSI. Sidewall strength may have some limited effect, as it also helps
hold up the mass of the car, but I don't think in this case it makes
enough of a difference to matter much. Anyone here remember college
physics better than me?

Norm and Pat --
That's exactly what I was looking for. I think mine are currently set
at 35 all around, so I'll try lowering the fronts a few pounds.
   Thanks, Rob
