Is it possible that something is stripped in the transmission of the wiper?

Sometimes it cycles correctly, and sometimes the piston doesn't go all the
way back in, causing the blade to contact the windshield posts and bind.

Is this serviceable, or should it be replaced as a unit? The motor is fine.
