I would be interested depending on the "volume discount" and the color. =
The
original wood in my '92 was a medium brown but I've since replaced the
console and the power seat surrounds and the new pieces are pretty dark.
That wood shift knob from the folks in Canada was a few shades too =
light.

If you look down this thread, you'll see a link to the Perfornance =
Products
site. It is woodgrain. The original cover is parchment painted plastic. =
I
removed the paint from mine, and now it's black like the dash.
=20
They are around 300 plus shipping if you get it individually, plus you =
need
to know the secret to installing it.

Cliff ,
I am in the millitary so I got this message late. I tried to get this =
cover
for my 91 SL 500 but it was not in stock. I have a fused gear shift =
knob i
also want to replace. I want to find out about the brake pads but I got
confused with all the talk. (smille) Someone help. Also My Cruise =
Control
went out. I was told I need two parts which are extremely expensive. =
Any
suggestions. I remember one being a Cruise control modulator. Did you =
get
anyone else who wanted to buy the cover for the map light?
Cliff Sadler <sadler@comcast.net> wrote:
OK,
if you want to replace it, there is a source for a burlwood cover at
performance products. If you put in 500sl, it will not come up though.
I have asked them for installation instructions on this, to see just how
involved this is going to get.=20
Here's the link for the burlwood version.

Hey Guys I have the same problem!!!!! The paint, or outer layer of =
plastic
is horrible!! I also have what seems to be a short. I guess I must =
replace

The map lights work fine.
I have noticed that the paint, or outer layer of plastic is real soft,=20
I thought that maybe this was due to someone trying to clean it
with a chemical that softened the paint. Others have said that
it is a reaction to exposure to the sun, or heat. Either way, it has to
come off, and get refinished, or replaced.
So, how do I remove this shell, so that I can do something with it?
I have found the 2 screws under the map lamp assemblies, but there
are more holding that unit under the windshield frame that I cannot =
find.
Do I have to remove the rear view mirror as well?
TIA.
