Cliff, I put a 1997 Panoramic on my 1993 600 SL, it went right on and
locked down tight and dry. There is a slight misalignment on one of the
locating pins, but I am told that the recepticle can be adjusted to fit
perfectly. There is also a slight mismatch of the window gasket where
the roof meets the top of the windscreen, but I have no leakage in the
rain, and there is no wind noise at over 100 mph. The oddest thing was
that the orientation of the front 2 "loops" on the newer roof was 90
degrees different to the older top. And yet, it just pulled down and
locked right up as soon as I pressed the switch.
I love the Panorama roof, the bigger windows and the glass roof really
open up the interior preventing the "leather cave" effect. The different
roofline curve changes the look of the whole car, especially from the
rear quarters. These are around 15,000 USD here in LA, from the dealer,
but are only available if the vehicle was equipped with one when
delivered. The few that show up on the used market demand a premium over
the standard aluminimum type. I found mine on eBay about 6 months ago
for just over 1600 USD, when the solid type were going for 500 to 700
USD.
