Finding this site is like finding the promised land ;-).
I am not expecting much but after living with a problem for 5 years and
spending quite a bit, maybe I can get some direction
from some of you.
I have a 91' 300SL and especially when I turn the indicators (turn) on the
the whole instrument cluster
seems like going through a short. Guages flip back, some of the lights
(ABS, SRS ) etc. come on
momentarily etc.
I have twice run out of gas when the fuel gauge indicated that there was gas
left (a little after) the 1/4 tank and
just as the fuel warning light comes on. I use to be able to drive it till
it was empty. Not anymore. (It tells me that
some thing in the sensor or the guage or pump is wrong )
My wife is convinced that the problems with the instrument cluster happens
more frequently when the fuel is left than
1/2 tank. It does seem to corelate.
My mechanic is not sure but ready to replace anything that is remotely
related. He has already replaced the Indicator switch.
I don't think it has helped any. I have taken it elsewhere but no one has
given a prognosis that remotely indicates that
they are in the ballpark ( and I have no way to know without ) letting them
have a field day. I am sure there are good shops too.
But I havent found one yet.
Has anybody had similar problems before or have opinions on that might be
causing it. Especially if there are simple things
that I can rule out, it will be such a big help.
thanks,
