For small transactions (where a total loss would be irritating but no worse)
I send Euro notes and coins because I have some left over from a trip.  I
could buy a bank Euro cheque for £8 charges for a large transaction. It
hasn't happened yet.  Another way is to get my bank to transfer Euros to the
vendor's bank account (they do this freely on the Continent apparently) but
I imagine the bank charges would be the same or dearer. At present I have a
couple of bids on German eBay and await the outcome. Philip
