Those ARE great pix, a wonderful blend of old and new technologies.

A far as the cold goes, when I woke up to stoke the fire Sunday morning
at six it was minus-27F outside my cabin kitchen window.

By the time I hit the ice (I haven't packed up my snowmobile with my
8x10 kit yet; I've been practicing around our shoreline these past
couple of weekends to get used to handling that size equipment in the
cold) it had warmed up to minus-10F! A veritable heat wave! (The coldest
I have ever photographed in was minus-42, a Santa parade in Timmins,
Ontario. I gave up after the fourth time my film broke in my old Canon
F-1.)

I have a pair of moosehide mits; my hands are never out of them longer
than it takes to make a single adjustment. I am looking for silk gloves,
but for now I use my dark cloth as a barrier between my skin and my
metal camera. Mitts are better than gloves ... the more that skin
touches skin, the warmer you'll be. Tight fitting gloves (and socks)
inhibit circulation and warmth transfer and should be avoided. Any
direct skin-to-metal contact is bad too.

And, I have learned, don't breathe too heavily under that dark cloth! I
was wondering why my focus had gone out so drastically when I realized
that I was trying to adjust through frost ...

That looks like an amazing van, Michael ... but how far away do you have
to park so it doesn't throw a golden hue on everything you shoot??? (Or
is THAT the secret of your IR shots???)
