[LargeFormat] how short is a rail

The shortest rail I can find listed in new or old literature is the 15cm
(6") extension. I believe the Sinar A-1 had a different rail (extruded??)
than the current Sinar rail (built-up) - but I could not find any details in
my Sinar literature nor on the Sinar site.

The Sinar could be carried on a very short rail. What is involved in
shortening a rail? Looks like
the threaded connecting rod, the tube and the aligning pins are all
involved. Not a 5-minute job for a skilled man.
Just what is the shortest Sinar tube? 6 inches?
