  It now occurs to me that if the meat _is_ ham, and the
blobs are poached eggs, the mashed potatoes may in fact be
grits. This would take the illustration out of the realm of
mid-western cooking and plop it down in the catagory of
southern cooking (of the well lubricated type). Perhaps the
stuff growing up between the meat and toast is moss.
  Most southern cooking is wonderful, some is pretty weird,
none is good for the figure (but who cares). Where dat ol'
Mint Julep hiding?
