Hello John,

You probably don't need to bother too much about focus shift using a 
58mm lens unless the subject is very close to the lens.

Yep, the lens will pass IR happily - it should also make cups of tea 
and stroke your brow when you are thinking about how you are going to 
pay for it ;-)
