[LargeFormat] lighting tricks

dear uncle richard

i just came from the 4 by 4 store where a guy with a crew cut directed my
attention to a portable, and very strong, coleman spot with a guide number
of 800 000. neither of us knew what that meant exactly but concurred that it
sounded extremely bright(lots of nodding). i will try it tonight and figure
a means of diffusing the spot. it has a circular glass and i thought a sawn
off(floor side) bucket with some linen stretched across the top might make
the ideal soft-box.

my technika has a coupled range-finder so i may take the law into my own
hands(literally) and mount a flash on top of it and do it circa 50's press
style

what is a good way to attach a small piece of dark cloth to the back of my
technika so that i may see the grotesque, and super-ostentatious 'board of
executives' building which i have to photograph clearly

i thought a tapered tube of velvet with elastic eyes which could fit gently
onto the four screws which allow the rear standard movement. any technika
owners in the p.gallery?

thanks
dave
