Actually, these days, the two are much closer. In the old days, to get a
good neg, you couldn't get a good print as the two required different
exposures.
However, over the years Polaroid has make improvements to the film. So that
now, a good exposure for a good neg will actually give a reasonable print.
Typical of Polaroid (rather like Ilford) - they make these improvements and
tweaks, but never announce them as such
