Dave,

It's wa-a-y easier than that.  The viewfinder has an internal mask which you
can dial to get  anywhere from a 90 to a 360mm lens view.  It's been a while
since I've used one (after a while I never really needed to use it), but I
think it would spin to either portrait or landscape.  I do know that some
allowance was made for this.
