English tail board cameras also used rectangular boards, but they were
always out of wood, never a sheet of solid brass or copper.

I think this was made up by somebody other than a camera company.

I've been tempted to make a special rising lensboard for my Eastman 2D
that would dupicate what the Deardorff does. and it would necessetate
the use of a solid brass lensboard, beveled on two long edges. A
matching pair of brass strips also beveled on the edge would trap the
brass lensboard onto a second wood board that would fit in the camera.
This would allow rising and falling of short focal length lenses even
when the pleated bellows are hopelessly bunched up.
