A month or two back, there was a bit of a discussion on paper
characteristics on this list, with someone (Uncle Dick?) bemoaning the loss
of Portriga Rapid.

Today, I picked up the new (Jul/Aug 2001) issue of Photo Techniques
magazine, which has a nice roundup of current b&w papers. Under Agfa,
there's an interesting paragraph which touches on it:

- - - - - - - -
Agfa Record-Rapid/Insignia --Graded (limited range available), FB,
slightly warm-tone, DW. "Insignia" has been the marketing name for the old
Agfa Record-Rapid, and remains the same as Record in one important respect:
it is coated with the same emulsion as the no-longer-produced old
favourite, Agfa Portriga-Rapid. The paper base is, to some eyes, a touch on
the warm side of plain white; others believe it to be the same base used
for the lamented Agfa Brovira. Despite the relatively recent name change,
this paper has hung in museums for generations. Agfa has recently announced
a return to the name Record-Rapid, so this fine paper will be known
worldwide by onee name.
