That's true for all color prints regardless of technology.

As to the Epson inks and the like, in their attempt (successful if you
buy a new generation printer from them) to lock the user into buying
Epson inks at fairly outrageous prices in ridiculously small
containers, they locked out the 3rd party ink vendors. There are far
superior ink sets, you just have to buy a pre-2000 printer, such as
the 3000, 1160, 1200, etc.
