[LargeFormat] Black and white on a comeback?!?

There are more people now shooting B&W wedding than there was 3 or 5
years ago

There are more hobbists out there now shooting larger format (above 4x5)

There are more photographers doing ambrotypes and dag than there was 20
years ago.


That doesn't mean Kodak and Fuji are going to be supplying silver plates
any time soon. Kodak's survival is dependant upon digital not silver.
They've closed the B&W R&D center. 

From a commercial point of view large format has taken a big hit. I'm
looking seriously at a 2x3 view camera so I can shoot perspectives on
120 and sell the 4x5,  a few years down the road the 2x3 will convert to
a digital camera when I can buy one without mortgaging the house. I was
able to buy an 8x10 deardorff ($700) precisely because it's no longer a
viable commercial format.

And  since i can drop out color in photoshop, I can shoot  a  digital
wedding and give the same prints out in both B&W and color.

B&W will remain around and be nurtured by smaller companies like
Bergger, Ilford and the like.
