We keep the lambs in the pen they have been in with their Moms.....Move the ewes so they have access to the fence to see, smell and touch the lambs for about 2 days and then the ewes get moved to a pen away from the lambs......Im a big believer in leaving the lambs in the pen they are familiar with.... they are comfortable with their surroundings feel secure, know where the water is, nothing changes except Mom isnt there to provide milk....

Subject: [Jacob-list] Weaning
Hello,
We're new Jacob breeders--have had our sheep for a year now, and had our first lambs this spring.
I was wondering if you could tell me how and when you wean your lambs? Do you withdraw feed from the ewes beforehand? Do you keep the lambs in a pen? Do you wean both ewe lambs and ram lambs, and if so do you do so in separate pens?
I would appreciate your insights!
Thanks,
Margie
